Prius becomes top-selling car in Japan
    Oklahoma Star
    Tuesday 7th September, 2010

Toyota Prius has become the top-selling car in Japan for August.

It is the 16th straight month that the car has topped the bill, due to incentives for green vehicles continuing to boost sales of the hybrid car.

The Prius, made by Toyota Motor Corp, is now one step ahead of the Honda’s Fit compact.

Government-backed tax breaks and incentives run out at the end of this month in Japan for hybrid vehicles, which may take them again further down the list.

The Prius went on sale for the first time in 1997 as the first mass-produced commercially available hybrid, which is sold in minivan, sport utility and and luxury configurations.
